it is not under warranty. It runs great. I just want to take care of it as good as I can. Besides changing oil regulary, what is the standard thinks to change at this milage?

There's really not much you need to do. Just follow the scheduled maintenance (schedule I & II). My car is a 97 528i with 136k. Some of the things to look for are the radiator and the water pump average about 80K, so those will need to be replace in 1-2 yrs. I am not sure about the transmission fluid on a 2001, but a lot of the older models had sealed transmission cases, so BMW doesn't recommend changing the fluid (if it's sealed) but they can and I recommend it at about 80-100K and so do the majority of the independent mechanics.

Thanks for the reply. My car is a 5 speed manual, so I think transmision fluid should not be an issue.
Where can I find maintenance schedule I & II details?

You should have those in your maintenance manual that comes along with the owner's manual in the case. If not you can get one from a dealer.

Your right in the range of the schedule II maintenance. I had mine done at 55k. I also have a 2001 530 with the sport and 5 speed. It will cost you somewhere around 700-800 dollars. My car was a CPO, so I didn't have to pay for the schedule I. I had the schedule II done because I felt after spending so much on the car it would be wise to make sure the tune up was done on schedule. They will change everything for you..........it's like a 50 point check list. It's all a matter of how much you would like to spend.

I did an Inspection II on my '01 X5 about 3 months ago. It included a cooling system flush and brake fluid flush along with all the visual inspections and oil service and air filter (both) service. Cost was $300 at an independent quality garage. They knew exactly what they were doing. I highly recommend finding an independent to work on a non-warrantied BMW otherwise you will be paying through the nose and spending a fortune on maintenance like you have always heard about BMWs.

It is very important to get your brake fluid changed every 2 years as the stuff can become corrosive over time and will eat your nice expensive BMW brake system for lunch.
