320i,1993, high rpm reading

Hi everybody.
I purchased a 320i, 1993, E36, 70k only
it runs great, however i noticed at about 120-140 k/h the r.p.m. gauge goes between 3.5-4 r.p.m i think it's a bit high for six cylinder don't you????
please help me and answer this question for me??

Is the car a manual transmission or automatic, and how many gears does it have? If it's a 5-speed manual, then it's totally fine...a lot of 5-speed manual cars have short ratios. For example, when I had my 03 VW Jetta 2.0 5-speed, at 100km/h in 5th gear, the engine would be turning at 2,800-3,000rpm.

The BMW 5 speed has no overdrive. 3.5-4K RPM is perfectly normal!
