Bluetooth in 2005? Seamless? HELP PLZ

I think I've lost my mind. I'm buying a 545 this week, and no one (including LA salesmen) seems to be able to answer my questions re Bluetooth.

Every other car I looked at listed "Bluetooth Technology" on the sale sticker; BMW does not. I've seen postings here about changing the Assist to Bluetooth but that sounds after-market ... is it seamless? It drives me crazy to have phone controls that are useless on a car this expensive ... pleae help, especially if you are using the technology ... please please please.

Bluetooth & Treo 650

Sorry, I should have mentioned I have a Treo 650. I've read some older posts that they don't pair well (no phone book transfer) ... is that still the case?

It depends on your service provider. I am assuming that you are not on Verizon's net work because they are not offering the 650 yet. BMW has certified some phones (It is burried in the BMWusa site somewhere). Bluetooth has "profiles" and devices need to have enabled these "profiles" for them to speak to each other. They should speak to each other if the profiles are enabled but Verizon limits the phone so you must pay for data transfer.

I have a 2004 (build 7/04) 545 with Assist. It cost approx $100 to activate bluetooth and it will pair and work with the Treo 650 (Sprint) as long as the carkit update is installed. My only problem is that if I save any favorites for speed dialing it will repeatedly reset the phone after the 1st call.

P.S. The controls that function include: redial, dial by number, missed calls, incoming calls, + steering wheel controls. Phone book is not available.
