BMW Lease

My lease for my 330xi is expiring next March. Just doing a preliminary check on what I would like to lease next.

I am interested in BMW X3 and talked to a sales, who I must say quick pushy. He said his dealer is willing to swap the lease with a new one on a 2007 x3. I am in no rush to end my current lease that soon but he made a comment that BMW will charge it's client a pair of tires if they have not been changed before 40k (mine has 57k on it). In the end, I would have to pay approximately the same thing if I waited out to the end.

Is it a common practice for BMW dealers to charge tire wears and tears or just a sales tactics from that sales?

Hmmm, it may be a sales tactic, but I can see the reasoning behind it. I'm assuming you mean 40 thousand kilometers. Not sure how that translates into miles, but I know the 3 series tires typically don't last much beyond 30,000 miles.

However, your argument would be that it's normal wear and tear and I don't believe they are supposed to charge for that. THat's why I think it sounds like a sales tactic.

It can be a sales tactic, but if your tires are truly worn out you can be charged for them. The tires have to be 4/32" OR 1/8" of an inch above the wear bar or you can be charged for every tire that does not meet that specification. That is the current policy in place here in the US through BMWFS of NA.

I don't drive aggresively so I must say anything to do with the tires is normal wear and tear. But then it's subjective right? How much does it cost to replace a pair of tires for a 330xi? I know I will surely be over the 60k km mileage at the end March next year so I am just trying to determine whether it's worthwhile to swap the lease.

Then my question to my fellow forum users should be: If you have experience leasing a BMW before, is there generally a hassle returning the leased vehicale to your dealers (don't specify name please)?
