I just found out that the 2003 330i I am looking to buy was a service loaner. The vehicle is CPO and has 13K miles on it. I drove it the other day and it was in excellent condidtion. A friend told me to be careful with loaners but since this one is certified should I be worried or not?

OH HELL NO!

DO NOT BUY A LOANER CAR, READ MY THREAD AND YOU'LL KNOW WHY!

Whatever was wrong with that loaner car and however they messed it up they now did it to my car after they replaced the transmission, and now the engine is crooked and the car accelerates and feels VERY SLOW!

The car is certified pre-owned and it is also CarFax certified, is it still a risky buy? CarFax says it will give either 10 % of the value or $5000 if it turns out the vehicle is a lemon. How could this vehicle be certified by both BMW and CarFax if there were issues?

Yes, the car currently has under 15K miles on it, I would try to sell by 75 but I doubt I would keep past 100K. I think it is a great deal, it is a few thou less than other '03 330's that are out there that have same mileage and options.

Service loaners are treated like rental cars. I'd try and find a CPO car that was NOT a loaner. Price should be about the same and there's much less chance the car was treated like crap for those 15K miles.

WBAAZ33433PH34072 go find out if carfax certifies that vehicle..... It is the biggest POS ever and carfax said its not a lemon buyback, meaning it is a lemon fixup. If they certify that car isn't a lemon then you know you can throw away their certification on the car you wanna purchase.

There are good loaner cars out there, I have had many. My dealership gives all BMW loaner cars when overnight service is required. At 5000 miles, these cars become certified pre-owned cars. Most people only have the car for a couple of days and I dont buy they are all trashed. I would like to think the average person that has a BMW in for service is not out trashing a new vehicle for the sport of it....besides any scratches or damage of any kind is payable by the customer. When you take possession of the BMW loaner car, a personal credit card is required at my dealership for any damage including scratched wheels, windshield chips, etc. Besides, with a warranty to 100,000 miles and a loaner car when your car is being serviced, who cares, let them keep it for a month if that is what it takes to correct any problems you might encounter. This is of course my opinion.

The best thing to do is to test drive the car he is interesed in purchasing. I'm sorry one experience has tainted your opinion. When you start using the word "ALL" to categorize a situation, the world becomes a very small place, i.e. All men, All women, All cars........[:(]
