Check Engine Light

I have a 92 325i, when I start the car my CEL comes on for about 15 seconds but then turns off, the same thing happend with my Integra every 10k miles even if nothing was wrong. Is this normal or should I have it checked out? And if it is normal how can I reset it?

yes, obvious thing would be to get the ECU codes read.

That's what I thought, but it only stays on for a short while so I was just wondering

A code was thrown and is stored in the system. You need to have it scanned.
