Hello all, I just bought a black 1995 325 ic and want to add some chrome wheels to it. It came with 16' wheels but I want to go an inch or two larger. I was told that I could go up to 18' wheels, but the ride would get stiffer. I don't really understand what that means but I don't want to give up too much of a smooth ride. So would 18's be a bad idea on a 3 series?

The ride will be slightly rougher because the sidewall of the 18" tire is narrower, therefore less flexible. For this reason, it is also easier to damage the wheel due to bad roads (Pennsylvania has been rated in the top 3 worst road conditions in the country). That's why I chose to stay with 17" when I got my car.

I second Kirby. I had a '99 M3 w/ 17-inch rims, and it was a pretty stiff ride. The 325 should be a little more flexible 'cause of the less aggressive suspension tuning, but I still would not go as far as 18-inch rims.

I had 18' ADR Sterlings on my 2000 323Ci. Tire size was 245/40 series. The ride was actually more comfy and quiter than the stock 17' setup that came with the sport package. I think tire size and series becomes more important as the rim size increases. An 18' setup with the right tire combo should fit your needs perfect.
