could somebody confirm this for me?

In most e30-e34 BMW I have seen, on the rear deck behind the seat, there is a triangular piece of plastic laying flat:

From what I see, it looks like some sort of vent for the trunk, but there are already vents at the part of the deck neares the glass.

Can anybody tell me what that thing is?

That is where the center seat belt clip is placed to hold it.

Dan is correct, but goodluck keeping that seatbelt in place with that clip. On our old E30, the seatbelt would always come loose when we're driving.

Yeah, thats probably why I have never seen anybody else use it. Naturally, I am going to go out and try it right now!
