i'm planing on getting a E36 probably some where between 92-94. I heard that the early model 3 series have a lot of trouble and a couple recalls... I was pretty hyped up on getting one cause i saw a couple in my price range.. but after hearing this it makes me iffy.. i'm wondering if anyone can shed some light on this.. thanks

I have a 92 325i.
I'm in the process of replacing the suspension going to a H&R cup kit to lower the car.

I've not had that many problems with mine.
That's a good list from kirby.
Try to get a carfax about the car.
Try to find a good mechanic to work on your bimmer and there's alot of DIY sites to help you.

I use to have an '92 E36 325IS COUPE and I purchased it from an owner who did have quite a few problems with it but he did get them all fixed, mostly the "known E36 problems", and I had no problems with it for the 4 years I drove it. I did a few mods to the exterior and engine and the car was very good to me. I think if you purchase the car now, chances are the previous owner took it too the shop to get the "known e36 problems" and had them fixed. So I think if you get a car that checks out mechanically, you will be okay as far as repairs goes. Don't know if this helps but it's just my experience with a used E36. I still love that car and the body style is so sweet!!!

BMW had alot of quality control problems in the early 92 chassis, but they were later fixed in mid 92. This was about the time the coupe body came out
