Hello Everybody.
I'm new to this whole thing so bear with me for a while please.
My name is Clete and I have been looking for an old car to buy for a long time now and haven't been very successful in that search thus far. I've been looking for an old Bimmer or if I can't snag one of those and old VW bug. What do you think about these cars for first cars and where do you think I should look to find them? Thanx

Welcome to the board. How old is old - 70s, 80s, early 90s?

Mid to late 80s and up should be fairly easy to find. Google "Used cars" and you'll get links to used car national listings, like cars.com, etc. You can search for specific models, price range, distance from your ZIP code, etc.

Early 80s and older are harder to find, as there were a lot less BMWs imported to the US. Also, keep in mind that mid to late 80s will probably be the cheapest to repair and restore.

when i say i like old cars i'm talkin' about cars like my dads '57 Chevy Del Ray sport coupe, and the 80's M3's are pretty much my dream cars. i sont really like all that much from the 70's except the 2002 and mini coopers.there are others as well of course tho. well honestly, pretty much any old car is fine compared to the stupid plastic pieces of crap all the other companies are building these days.
i.e. hondas and all that crap
like i say to my friends German Classics not Japanese plastics

get a BMW, once you get one you'll never want anything else :) I would reccomend an E30, they are pretty basic and last forever. I had an '89 325is with 270K on it when i sold it and it ran perfectly with original engine/transmission...
