Since our cars don't meet EPA's standard for being a fuel efficient car, we have to pay a gas guzzler tax.

It's a fine that BMW passed down to the consumers.

Tom,

Is that for all BMW's ??, I could not find that charge for my 04' 330 ?
I believe its only for certain models. If it's not labeled on the sticker then you probably weren't charged.

It's a really stupid law. "Trucks" and vans are exempt, which encourages auto makers to designate vehicles as trucks or vans. The PT Cruiser is a good example of this. Based on the Neon platform, front drive, etc. it is classified as a truck. CAFE laws are equally stupid. Even more stupid are the people in favor of this law who think that car makers will pay the fines.

I saw it on a window sticker for the first time a few weeks ago. The Local Porsche dealer has a 911 Turbo on display. I think the Guzzler tax was around $3500 - $4000. But if you can afford the $120,000 for the car, who cares!!!

I guess it doesn't really matter that much when you are buying such an expensive car but SUV's not paying that tax just kills me.

It is disgusting. But then again its laughable to think of their gas bills when they get 10-15 mpg or less. The joke's on them. [hihi] [cheers] [headbang] [nutkick] [chair] [clap]
