Hey I just bought my first bimmer, a 1996 328i, and I just had one question. I was wondering if using gas that has an ethanol enhanced formula (Ex. From a Mohawk or Husky gas station) could dammage my car. I know it works fine in North American cars but I am not certain about imports. Thanks for the help.

Here is an interesting write up on gas, brands and oxygenated fuels. It is old and some things have changed but I have always heard that ethanol and methanol fuels were hard on plastic and rubber parts (including gaskets) and for that reason I avoid them. However I know that some things have changed.Fuels

Intresting write up - I wonder how BP would be rated now that they have taken over Amoco. There is a Shell in my town, but it is on the oppisite side and deffinatly not convenient for me to go their.

Other than that, my options are Phillips 66 (a little out of my way) or a couple of Citgo's.

I'm not sure if all 3 grades have it, but the shell stations have stickers on the low grade pump that says "Ethanol" on it. Shell is part of that gas approval thing put together by GM, BMW, Toyota, etc. so I'm assuming it's okay. It smells like racing fuel when it comes out of the pump [hihi]

Doesn't surprise me that is why I made sure to note that the link I provided was "old". I remember the days when Shell gas was considered one of the worst on the market. I used Conoco in Idaho, but havn't seen one around here. I use mainly Chevron and Costco.
