I just bought a 2001 325 and it has the HK stereo. It sounds pretty good but to my ear the bass is a little boomy and the midrange is lacking. I would be interested to hear what others think of this system and if anyone has modified it with different speakers etc. Also, I'm thinking of putting a changer in the trunk and would like to hear from others who have it whether it's worthwhile.

I have the HK system in my Z3 and really like it. [thumb] To me, when you add other than OEM equip, you cheap your car out. Just my $0.02 [headbang]

I think for a standard OEM systems its a pretty good sounding system. But the fact we pay an extra $600+ for it as an upgrade -- It should sound a little better. If it came standard I would be happier with it

I drove one with the "stock-stock" stereo before I drove mine and the HK is way better. Hows that for grammar...

On the 3 series coupe, I didn't think it sounded $600 better or whatever it was. Bass is slightly louder, but it wasn't any clearer. Course, my friend who has it thought it sounded worlds better the minute he compared them. I think it's all personal preference. I would have gone aftermarket for $600 personally.
