hi all-

just got a nice '95 325i, 4-dr, black/black, 68K miles. first bimmer, and i love it! got rid of a 2K jeep grand cherokee that i hated with a blinding passion. anyway...

i searched the forums for some questions that i have, but didn't have any luck. (maybe i just need to get used to the vernacular.) anyway, maybe someone can help me a bit:

1. what is a good product for cleaning the cloth headliner? i think the former owner smoked, so it is a bit dingy.

2. the dash is starting to pull away slightly above the vents over the center console. anything i can do?

thanks a million!

rob_z, welcome! I have never cleaned a headliner, but I am sure that many members here will help you. Vlad is our resident expert on cleaning, polishing and waxing. If you live where it gets hot I suggest using either a dash mat all the time and or a window shade when your parked.

rob, welcome to the forum. [:)]
As for cleaning the headliner, I am not sure exactly how to go about cleaning it. But checkout this web site:
http://www.autogeek.net/
Click on "CAR CARE PRODUCTS" on the left....that web site has many specialty car cleaning products and you should be able to find something that will help you out!

its cloth. i am just afraid if i use any type of detergent it will fall.

i think i should be ok w/woolite fabric cleaner. sponge it on and vaccuum off the excess.

bimmers are like artwork - they never get old and always look good as long as they're taken care of. And you never get tired of staring at them.. :)

Post em up!

spent 8hrs detailing over the weekend. car is now 'excellent' - i think 'mint' would be impossible w/o significant cash.

for the headliner i used armour-all upholstery wipes. they worked amazingly well - i HIGHLY recommend.

for the dash, i used black silicone calk and beaded it between the dash and vent where they were separating. it sealed off the area to prevent moisture from entering, and it improved the looks of it 10 fold. in other words, you can only tell it is warped if you know what it looked like new.

only problem is that it is storming today! i almost ride the sv to work to keep the bimmer clean and dry!
