can this be done easily?

when my car turns off, i want the power to be killed going to the cigarette outlet.

i live in fear that i might leave my ipod plugged in, still charging, and might end up with a dead car. thanks

Easy, if you have electrical wiring knowledge, otherwise not easy.

Find another circuit that is powered only when the car is running (i.e. radio power) and splice the iPod power feed into that circuit.

I don't think you really have much to worry about - the 0.67A 12v output from the iPod power adapter isn't going to drain your car battery. Plus, the iPod stops charging when the battery is full anyways.

It all depends on the condition of your battery, however if you have a decent to great battery Justin is correct, that voltage drain is not going to kill your battery, besides again like Justin said, once your i-Pod, cell phone, or whatever is charged to max capacity the charging stops.

My lighter plug in the roadster is wired to the switch, if the car is off the plug is dead.

I think it would be okay. My parents' vehicles both have the hands-free phone thing from MB where you just plug the phone into this port hidding in the center console. It gives you hands-free and it charges the phone while it is plugged in. When the car is off, the phone continues to charge....my mom leaves her phone in there 24/7 and she has never had any battery issues.
