I just bought my first BMW a few weeks ago; a 1999 540iA Sport with Xenon's. It is a Florida car in immaculate condition with 55k miles. I have owned a 1986 Mercedes 300SDL Turbo, a 1991 Volvo 740 Turbo (which is back home in my parents garage) and just sold my 2000 VW Jetta 5spd. The car so far is great and I love it!

I do have a few questions for anyone who has any advice, I need new wiper blades, but the ones sold at AutoZone have wider arm that does fit into the BMW holder (if that makes sense?) Also I noticed that my left headlight lense started building up condensation the other day, never saw it before. I know this is a common problem, but what is the cure and lastly I know BMW recommends an oil change service every $7,500 miles, but the Euro mechanic I will take my car to recommends every 3,000 miles. Which should I follow and should I use synthetic oil? Otherwise all is good and look forward to being a part of this community. -Ted

Picture of the car down in Florida and back at home with an old German plate that my parents had when they lived in Munich back in the late 70's.

Congratulations! That is my favourite 5 Series of all time. I like the previous model too, because my aunt had one, but when this body debuted in 1996, I was very impressed, and still think it's a classic BMW style. Freude am Fahren!

I feel very comfortable running synthetics to 7500 mi, specifically Mobile 1. As for the wiper blades, I would either purchase refills from BMW or order them online. I know some will disagree, but I have never had good luck with replacing the entire blade.

Replaced wiper blades with AutoZone brand and no they do not fit easily. Had to trim the base and it looks like crap, hope they stay on until I can get original equipment (at 4 times the price I might add but....) 2002 530I

Nice car! Always loved that 5 Series.

About the blades, try walmart. I replaced the blades on my parents' 528i with ones from walmart; fit perfectly, etc.
