new owner of a 2000 323i that has experienced several problems. Is it usual for a car purchased from a dealer with 48,000 miles to have rotor problems, air conditioner clutch problems ( thus the AC compressor must be replaced) , for the engine light to come on with no problems, for the car to go into limp mode with no problems, for the transmission gear indicator light on the gear shift to slip and read wrong even though car is in the correct gear. I have owned several Mercedes in the past, with few problems, and all of these problems on my BMW are very distrubing. In addition I have had to replace the air sensor unit, and some front end work. The dealer took care of a transmission problem- but I am now looking at approxiamtely $2500.00 worth of repairs ( plus the $850.00 previously spent) for a car that I have had for15 months and driven 15,000 easy miles. Any suggestions or helpfull advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Rotors, as in brake rotors? They go usually when the pads do, or your 2nd set of pads (depending on driving habits). Usually around 50k miles. I had my pads n rotors done about that time - Normal.

A/C clutch problem? That 1, or 2 problems? (don't understand that one)

Car going limp, transmission problem - this an auto or manual? Sounds like auto with all the problems you're having. If so, I'd suspect the 1st owner was rough on it. But, BMW took care of that under CPO warranty right? (How is it now?) - Not normal.

Air Sensor unit - goes after 4+ years, defective part, CPO warranty should cover it (I just had mine replaced under CPO, they know about this failed part and replace it). - Normal

Front end work - What sorta work? Control arms, control arm bushings? bushings go anywhere from 30-50k miles, bad part. Better to replace with an aftermarket part, or let BMW put the same thing in, and replace it again in 30-50k miles.. Control arms, well sometimes they go bad if you are on bad bushings for too long. Or could point to someone taking a pothole or bump in the road too harshly maybe before you got it, and it needed some work. - Somewhat normal. This may or may not be covered under warranty, depends on how they view the 'work' that needs to be done?

Sounds like you ran into a few 'normal' wear n tear items, and maybe some things that slipped by their CPO car check before they sold it - but you're best to comment on that given your 15k miles put into it since you got it. Or is this a CPO car? If it isn't - it sounds like you may have gotten worked over, if it is, most of what you described they should be covering I would think.

fill us in more on the front end work?
