Just thought I would intro myself. I'm not a BMW owner yet, but hope to be in the future. I'm looking for something a little more economical to drive...but want some class along with it. Just looking to answer questions and get input before I go buy later this summer.

I'm from Utah, currently active duty military. I work in the Air Force and just got back from Iraq recently. By my name, obviously I work with bombs...I actually disarm and blow up the roadside bombs in Iraq and deal with unexploded ordnance and homemade bombs in the states. It's great fun!

So hello to all and I look forward to any input ya'll can give as far as purchasing a used bimmer in the future, thanks!!

Welcome to the board.
How much are you willing to spend?

Thank you!

Basically I'm looking in the $9 k range.

My initial interests are a 318ti and the 325 series. I've found a few around this price range with mileage anywhere from 70k-150k. If I could find one a little cheaper it would give me an oppurtunity to do a few performance mods and have a little fun with it. I currently drive a '99 Chevy truck that is lifted and gets 9mpg...so this would be a daily driver of sorts, with around 5-30 miles going on during a given day. It would also be used for the occasional road trip too.

Also as a little edit to my bio...I am stationed in Utah but from Washington State...Vancouver, Wa.

you could easly pick up a 318ti or a 325 (e36) that is 1992-1999 for less than 9k

been kinda hunting autotrader and found a few, but wow, the miles are high. 100k +. Not sure if i wshould bother looking at those or not. Just looking around the threads, I'm guessing the big problem is the auto vs. manual transmissions right?

Most BMW's properly maintained will exceed 200,000 miles and even more. The automatics usually last 100,000 and in some cases longer. If you do not need an automatic than I would get a manual. Last year I sold my 91 318is with 164,000 miles for $5,500, and it was purchased on the same day the ad came out by the first person who came to look at her. Mileage should not be a big concern IF you can verify the care and maintainence of the car.

What would be some key things I would want to look out for in a used 325i. Tentatively this is the model I'm thinking I want. I would like to get a manual just so I could take advantage of the driving experience. Also, what would be some key upgrades to make off the bat.

So, just an update. After searching tirelessly...I think I have decided to look at selling my truck. For the total cost of everything my truck costs me around $800 a month to maintain...gas included. So, i figure I could afford to shell out around 20k and maybe start looking at newer Bimmers. Any suggestions?
