I need some prodding here. I have been a Volvo guy 'forever', but do not like the newer 'Ford' Volvos as much, and would like to consider a BMW.

I have been looking at something like a 00 to 02 three series wagon to replace my 1990 740 Volvo wagon. I will be driving it for a long time - my wife and I have our first baby on the way and as the family grows she will get a larger vehicle and I will continue with the BMW.

I am looking for advice on any particular models or trims to stay away from, as well as realistic maintenance costs per year that I will need to budget for. Any help is much appreciated.

Seems like they are not in high demand on ebay right now - that I could get one off these for about the same as a VW golf TDI - which seems crazy. help!!

Welcome to the baord! I too have looked at the wagons and you are correct, they seem to sell on eBay relatively cheap. The problem is that you do not see a lot of them selling at once and they are kind of hard to find. I had a friend with a 5 series wagon and he kept it forever, pushing over 300000 miles. He claims he never had a problem, but he did follow the service intervals exactly.
