Newbie with "Sport Package" question

Hi, this is my first time and post on this site. I had a 2001 330ci with the sport package, traded it in for a 2003 without the sport package--man what a mistake.

I can truly notice the difference in acceleration when I punch it. Can any one here tell me what are the differences in the timing from "non" to with sport package and is this something I can chip or program back into the car?

errr, I don't recall the sport package having anything to do with engine timing or whatever. It was basically some combo of suspensions, sports seats, steering wheel, and clear turn signals.

Maybe your new car has some engine or tranny problems. Don't think they're related to the sports package.

Yes it's nothing to do with the engine..

I thought you guys in the US had a slight increase in engine power with the ZHP package (assuming it is the ZHP). That could be the culprit, although I highly doubt it would make that much of a difference. How odd.

Absolutely no difference in the engine from a non-sports package to a sports package. All that is effected is the suspension and wheels (for what matters).

If you meant ZHP 330 to a regular 330.. Man 10hp is not that huge, if you think 10hp and .2 seconds is a massive difference... I'll just hush now..

I think what I'm feeling in the acceleration is a different driving style that I and the previous owner may have had. I think they may have "dogged" it some.

But at this point purely speculative.

Was your previous car chipped? I know that the Dinan chip removes the initial hesitation in the automatic.

Very true - any sort of light modding up front (Chip, and/or intake) will help it 'breathe' better and cause the acc. pedal to feel more responsive (And for the RPM's to climb and for the engine to feel more responsive). But I don't think the dealership would sell a chipped car? (Well maybe Dinan, another good point!)

Could be like you're thinking, the car has adapted to 'bad driving', and has to learn your driving nuances. You can reset that:

Put your key in the ignition.
Turn it once so the dash lights up, count to ten.
Turn the key to off, count to ten.
Turn the car on - this should reset the adaptive ECU.
Or yank the battery terminals for about 10-15 minutes to do the same thing.

Not sure! It's a 'trick' I've found in many 'E46 Easter Eggs' posts I've seen, and it's well documented on E46fanatics (and it works!). I'd suspect anything running ODB2 would reset like this - pulling the terminals for 10+ minutes will insure no juice is left in the ECU, and cause it to 'reset'. (That should reset the adaptive timing for any of our cars - post ODB2 I'd think!)

Time to spin this by a bud of mine who's modding a 540i like nuts right now.. He's an ex-bmw technician so maybe he can shed light on non-3's ECU reset procedure.
