I am new at owning a BMW and my car did not come with an owners manual. What are the lights under the board computer that are green yellow and red, when you start the car they come on, I have 3 green lights lit up and have no clue what they are. I have a 95 525i.

Thanks
Dawn

welcome aboard!

they are your oil change status lights. i'm not sure how it exactly works, but i think green means you are good and it'll degrade to red over time. call a local dealership and ask the service rep. i'm sure they'll be more helpful than me.

they are basicly pointless if you dont take your car to the dealer any more for service (which i assume you dont), the are service intraval lights

Why would you say they are pointless? I do my own oil changes and I go by the lights, of course, I have switched to synthetic so the intervals are just right and not unbelievably long as the dealership likes them. The number of green lights decreases with time and the milage you have driven since the last reset. They indicate oil service and inspection depending on how long and how many miles it has been. I'm not sure about the e34 but on the e36 they are very easy to reset even without the special tool, so no trip to the dealership is needed.
