I just purchased a 01 330ci with the sport package. Has anyone used a tire size on the rear other than 245/40/17? Also any inputs on tire manufacturers would be great and it needs to have good wet weather characteristics (Tacoma, Wa.) Thanks!

Anything more than 245's, and a fender roll might be needed. I've 'seen' 265's back there on cars with drops w/o fender rolls, it can really depend on the brand of tire, and it's physical qualities (is it 'rounded' or 'squared', etc..) Anything bigger than 245's, and a fender roll gets more and more into the picture, especially since you do have the sports package and are already riding a little lower than the non-sports suspension cars.

Everyone has opinions about their tires, I'd say goto tirerack.com, pick the 5 tires that most appeal to you, and compare them (Tirerack has a good amount of feedback on every one of their tires, so you can read what others have to say, and also compare their ratings for the tires including how they do in wet weather, which is what you're looking for).

On that note, I'd pitch getting Pirelli Pzero Nero M&S's for an excellent all-season tire that does great in the rain. It gets some of the best ratings at tirerack across the board. Make sure to include them when you do the compares on tire rack, you'll see what I mean.

Currently I am running the Continental ContiSports Contact M/S's. They aren't that bad, but I would purchase something else. They terrible when cold but get better when warmed up. They are pretty good in the summer and stick pretty well, but for winter use I would choose something else....

Thanks for the inputs. This is a great site. I've heard of people putting 255/40/17 in the rears. I don't want to roll the fenders right now, so I'll go with 245/40's. I've heard good things about the Pirelli's and Yoko's. I'll check tirerack.

You'd probably be fine with 255's of the same brand on there for sure. How many fingers can you get between the wheel and the outside of the well?

I want to say that the ZHP's come with 255's in the back? (Anyone with a ZHP confirm/reject?) I remember when I test drove one, that I thought the rears really were huge, but I didn't think to check the tire size..

I can get 2 fingers between the wheel and the outside wheel well. When I bought the car the dealer put 225/45/17 tires on all four. It looks funny in the rear with that size tire, so I need to change it. Can't stand the OEM Dunlops. Anybody have any opinions on Falkens tires?

I ran a set of Falken Z rated's on my last car a few years ago, and burned through them in under 20,000 miles, damn near bald, and that was with constant tire rotation. And this was a slow 4 banger fwd, not like I could peel out or do anything too fun to cause them to wear so quickly. I will say that they were the grippiest tires I've had, and if I were shopping for track tires, I'd check them out, as they are alot less inexpensive then the high end track tires. Not good in the rain tho.. (I'd have to poke around their site to see which tire it was, in fact I think they don't make it any longer..)

I'm starting to lean towards the Yokohama AVS ES 100 because of the price and also it has the rim guard protector. I'll have to live with them for awhile, so I'm trying to figure what will work best. I want it all (haha)!!! Great traction and treadlife. I know it's near impossible to get both without braking the bank. [:D]
