It would be front and if you jack the front tires off the ground than grab a wheel and wiggle it you may feel the loose joint. They are not hard to replace, you just need the right tools. I would suggest you purchase a Bentley manual for your car (what model and year?) as they are worth every penny.

My car didnt pass inspection the inspector said my ball joint was bad but he didnt tell me which one. Just curious if anyone could tell me how hard it is to replace either the front or the rear? Thanx
