I would like to purchase my dad's 525 BMW but will
be driving 20 km of fairly rough back roads and 20
km highway driving daily. He is discouraging me from
buying it as he says it was built for strictly highway
driving. I want the car and am trying to prove him
wrong. Any advice??

I guess it would depend on what "fairly rough back roads" are? The 525 like most BMW's were not built for rough road driving, which I would define as dirt roads with pot holes, ruts and bumps. A plowed gravel road would not be a concern, except for paint wear, but if you are talking about primitave roads with little or no maintenance than I would get a pickup or X3. Best of luck with your decision.

I'd go for a 4X4 pickup for that much driving on "rough roads." I've taken our X3 on dirt and rock roads and don't really like it. It just doesn't handle the roads as well as our GMC truck. I would never take my 530 on a dirt/rock road and am really nervous when I have to drive it on a gravel road.
