There really is no easy adjustment, but going with a bigger tire and smaller rim combination will help with the harshness.

Welcome to the forum. Unfortunately, there is no way to make the suspension softer. You can adjust your tire pressures to the minimum pressure level (in your owners manual), but it will be a very marginal difference.

high perf suv.. so far you have to put up w/ the stiff ride for better handling. (since there is no adjustable shocks offered by bmw) on the brightside, your car's not as stiff as the sports package x5s [:p]

welcome to the forum, see ya around.

Tom mentioned bigger tires/smaller rims which would help. Similarly, the sidewall stiffness of the tire will make a difference as well. Depending on what tires you have, just changing them to a softer sidewall tire will help a little, but not a lot. A really good tire dealer who knows his products could tell you how much it would help.

You might want to look at a mercedes ML next time if you want a softer ride. I believe they are adjustable (emile can answer that)
The ML320/350 has a softer ride than the ML430/500 and the ML55 AMG. But the ML500 has a harsh ride and the ML320/350 is only a little better.

If you want a soft-riding SUV, your best bet is to trade it in for a Lexus SUV. Our RX300 rides smoother and softer than my parents' luxury sedans! [:0]

X5 has a harsh ride?!?!?!?!?! You gotta be kidding, take a ride in an X3... My 330i has sports suspension and compared to economy cars of it's size which have a regular suspension the bimmer rides like a cadilac. If the 3 series has a first class ride, then the X5 being BMW's flagship SUV which sells so well, it has to ride at least a bit better.

Nope, SUV's always need a stiffer suspension because of the higher ground clearance. The X5 with Sport Package has a very tight ride and it's harsh as hell in the back! The back seat is like sitting in a school bus. The 330i with Sport Package has a tight ride also, but it's softer over the bumps than an X5 and it handles much much better.

Want an SUV with a harsh ride? Come for a ride in my Suburban. HD Bilsteins and Michelin LTX 8 ply sidewall light truck tires. Feel every bump, but great for towing.

Wasn't he talking about the premium package X5 having a harsh ride? When I said better ride than the 3 series I kinda meant noise/jolts over small bumps. But I do agree the X5 does have a schoolbus backseat...and it's no question the 3 series handles much better than an X5.

isn't if you deflate the tires a bit on the X3 you get a nicer ride?
