I've had my 2003 530i Sport for a week now, and it's been a hell of a week. Quick question regarding the steering. I live in the Northeast, and took the car on a 400 mile trek up and down 95. The roads aren't great, they are grooved for the wheels with a lip (like a speedbump) in the middle of the lane. Moving into the passing lane is also like traversing a vertical speed bump. Everytime I move to the passing lane at 75-85 mph the car has a tough time getting back to center smoothly, it would rather keep going with the contour of the road. Same thing happens if I'm not perfectly centered in my lane. Flat roads in good shape are smooth, these roads are stressful. Is this normal with this car? If so, how long does it take to get used to this?

Hey twc14, I'm in Massachusetts and love the 2002-2003 530i Sport. That's a sweet car. Have you got a stick?

Anyway, I have a 325i Sport and I have noticed it as well. I would say it is normal due to the width of your tires on the sport package. I confirmed this with a BMW service technician and with other cars I have owned with wide tires. It is normal but there is such a thing as excessive. That is subjective. My advice is to drive with both hands on the wheel and give yourself some time to get used to it. If you find it is still annoying, perhaps there is something amiss with your front end or suspension.

Thanks - I was getting concerned. I have the stick too, so it's a brand new experience. Just to be safe I'm bringing it in to the dealer for wheel balancing and an alignment anyway.
