I just bought a 1986 635csi and no operators manual came with it. I put in a new battery and now the stereo says (code). The guy I bought if from says that info is in the owners manual and you have to push the stereo buttons in the right sequence. Anyone know what I need to do? Thankyou

"Code" is the alarm. If the alarm is activated, it must be "deactivated" in order to start the vehicle. For my '96 328i, this is how to activate it. It's probably very different but as you said you dont have a manual so hopefully this will help a little. Turn the key to the '1' position (turn once, should only activate electronic equipment). You should hear a beep. Then, using the digit keys (my car has 4 keys, 1,10,100,1000), use those keys to create a digit code. Remember the code, because youll need it to start the car. Each time you turn off the car you must set the alarm (if you want it on). Otherwise the alarm isn't activated. The car wont start without the correct keycode.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. I have the same buttons in my car and I put in a few different codes but I did not know how to enter them. The car starts and runs fine but the stereo just says code. I guess the reason I want to figure this out is so I will have a radio. when I turn the key one time the code window shows -300. If I push the code button I get - - - - then I can enter any thing I want. I am not sure if there is a way to enter the code because there is no enter key or anything like that. AnY thoughts on where I can get the info I need?

i think hes talking about the RADIO, not the obc. there should be a 4 or 5 digit number that you put into the radio and then ittl work. its probably in one of the manuals somewhere. i have the same problem except i dont have a code, so no radio.
