The title on the picture says it al...

The majority of teenagers male or female don't know how to drive anyway, so I doubt this has any meaning at all (at least not to insurance companies where it matters). If it were up to me no teenagers would be driving on the road, unless it were absolutely essential and/or they passed a special driving test.

And how are they going to learn driving skills and get experience if they can't drive?

And I'm sure there's a few teenagers who could show all of us a few tricks regarding car control. Michael Schumacher bagn driving at the age of 4, after all.

Good point! I think the driving tests should be MUCH harder - maybe even have some kind of 'prohibation' period from 16 years old to 18 years old that only lets them drive in certain area's (ie not on the highway)

Which is EXACTLY why I said "the majority of teenagers" as there are always exceptions. The exceptional teenage drivers would easily be able to pass the special licensing exam. I forgot to add that 16-18 year old drivers shouldn't be allowed to drive without a parent at all. Look at the death rates for 16 and 17 year old drivers...

Uhhh, I started driving at 15, my driving skill is not far off, if not the same as many people on this board. Insurance companies, and the government discriminate due to age. This is not fair as there are teen drivers, who are responsible, and have great driving skill. I wouldnt mind having a much harder test to weed out the bad drivers from the good, if it allowed me to drive a car legally at an earlier age, all the better.

What I do think should not be allowed is more than one other teen in the car if driving without a parent. I had a car full of friends before, and I know that is very distracting. When accidents do happen its when teens drive w/ others their age in the car.

Again I disagree, what if a teen needs to drive to work or school,or elsewhere, you can't have a parent chauffeuring their kid around all day. Are you 19 yet? Once you start seeing all the kids who were 2 or 3 grades below you in school behind the wheel, you're going to be saying the same thing as me. I considered myself one of the "exceptional" drivers, since I never had an at fault accident, hell I never scraped a curb.

And about the 18 yo thing...they do it in practically every other country in the world. Where driving is seen as a privilege, not a right.

I have a theory that driving skills are inherited and passed down from parent to child through same genders (ie: crappy mom driver breeds crappy daughter driver, good dad driver breeds good son driver). Therefore, the parent should have to take a driving test to determine what sort of training programs and such the child will have to go through before obtaining their license.

That holds no grounds though and could never be proved. My mom's a bad driver in the sense that she (like 99% of women) never check their mirrors. I was following her for a good 3 miles till she saw me behind her - that included me blinking my lights at her and everything! My dad is theoretically a good driver but he tail gates a lot, which I would never do.

Well...how about the women I see on the road who seem to be clueless as to anything outside the car? Plus it was an exaggeration since I never claimed I had evidence to it. But yes in fact I do know a lot of women, and I'd much rather drive myself.

What about the old people, in truth all age groups have terrible drivers not that long ago I saw a lady (mid 30's) go right threw a stop light, she didn't even know what was going on.

On the other hand I have see the same with teens, old people, and best of all MIDDLE AGED MEN, it has nothing to do with age- its attentiveness and personality, just make the driving test harder and you will solve a lot of problems- problem is it really doesn't solve the problems – better yet give them all Manuals.

Actually my only friends who ever wrecked their cars...were all automatics. Most of my friends drive manual, too. You have much more control with a car and you are more connected in the sense you know what's going on.

Im talking about those who would get confused by the 3 pedals and potentially hit the gas instead of the brake or the clutch instead of the brake pedal...

Let alone new drivers who would really be clueless having to shift gears and pay attention to the road... But your point does make sense, if it wasn't for automatics a lot less people who shouldn't be driving wouldn't be on the road...
