Greetings,
I have recently purchased my dream car.........a 2000 540i w/6 speed manual trans.

I luv everything about this car but.............

I must say I am very disappointed in how this car shifts. I find the shifter to be extremely "notchy" and the throw distance feels like I'm going to shift right through the dash (kidding.....) Having now done some research it appears that many others have the same complaint due to the number of after market short shift kits that are available. It seems the two most popular choices are UUC and Rogue products.

Any advise/comments the forum could offer would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. Comparing my new BMW to my previous car which was an Audi A4 manual.

I have the same gripe with my car; the shifter is notchy (almost crunchy) through the shift gates. I'm looking to go with either a B&M or AutoSolutions short shifter. Sorry, but I'm not sure what's a good fit for your application. [B)]

edit: Congrats on the new car and [welcome]

So they complain about the length of the throw and it being notchy becasue of the number of short shift kits available? I think you meant many other complain about the shifter, and your not sure which short shifter kit to get due to there being many brands available? I prefer the UUC or Dinan having used both. I have the Dinan in my roadster it feels and shifts wonderfully. I must admit that I have not tried any others!
