Timing Chain?

Is that the timing chain I hear when my car is idling? When I pulled into my friend's garage over the weekend, it seemed louder than usual. The car does not idle quietly. It runs smoothly and seems fine. 68K orig. miles. It's not CPO but seems near mint.

Should the car go in for a check up?

PS: The car drives near perfect as far as I can tell (first one). What a blast to drive! Especially between 60 and 80 mph on the highway.

maybe chain tensioner . . . .

does it idle rough at all . . . .esp on cold start ups?

Hi. Tks for responding. I have watched the idle as it warms up and the tach sits motionless...it runs perfectly. I'll take it to BMW soon for a check-up.

Hi,
Mine does this also, if you pop the bonnet does it sound very rattly? BMW looked at mine and said it was the VANOS unit, thats now been changed and its still realy noisy! I'm thinking cam chain, but BMW reckon the chains last forever?!? (its a mechanical part is it not, therfore will have a life?)!
