My 2002 530i has about 28000 miles on it and the tread on the tires is starting to look worn. I have the Michelin Pilot MXM4 225/55 95H tires that it came with. Should I stick with the same or is something out there significantly better? We just put a Toyo Proxis tire on my wife's 325 and it seems to handle well.

ALso is 30,000 miles reasonable for a tire's life on these cars?

What would be the best replacement tire? I don't drive hard but have fun and need an all season tire since our winters are not bad--lots of rain and almost no snow.

Would someone also please explain the different ratings of tires, as in: what does the "H" mean?

DRWWE, "Would someone also please explain the different ratings of tires, as in: what does the "H" mean?"

Visit the "www.tirerack.com" instead of me trying to explain the different tire rating, they have many links which will explain most if not all of your questions. Thet also have a ratings section by people like you and I which give you some insight about their tires. Let us know when you decide. Enjoy the ride dude.

I agree with Ipquick. TireRack has a lot of info for your head. You can browse by brand, size, performance category, or car. They have a lot of realistic ratings which give you a good idea of how any tire compares. They seem to have very good pricing compared to my local shops. I just got a new set from there after weeks of searching. I also need an all-season and they recommended the Pirelli PZero Nero M+S or the ContiExtreme Contact Continentals. The Michelin Pilot A/S are good but pricey for me. I decided on the Pirellis. Good Luck.

i dunno what kind of driving you do, but my Cooper Llifeliners claim to get 50,000+ miles. It a great all weather tire, good grip and feel, but nowhere near high performance. I have always been happy with Cooper, well at least my dad has....But the best bet is definately www.tirerack.com

The average tire lasts for 36,000 miles. You can tell when it's time to replace your tires by doing the "penny test". The "H" stands for the tire's rated top speed, which is 130mph.

For selecting the right tire, definitely go to TireRack.com. Fill out the tire size you are looking for and ask yourself what kind of tires you need. Based on what you said, I would go with a set of high-performance all-season tires. If you're looking for a really great set of tires, then I can instantly recommend the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S tires. They are pricey, but they are a really great all-around tire. They're great in the dry, the wet, and in the snow and they are comfortable and have a good tread life. Like I said, they are expensive but they are worth the premium.
