Sports Package

I just purchased a 2000 528i. I wanted one with the Sports package but this was just to good of a deal to pass up. Can the suspension be tweaked as it exsists or does it need new components to upgrade?

New componets are needed. You could consider Dinan suspension, I have had two sets on two different cars and love them, and there are many others out there as well. I would avoid H&R, harsh ride.

Bav Auto has their lowering "Sport" springs for your car onsale at this time for $199.99 and the shocks are from $80. to $179.00 ea. Than have them installed! Check them and other suppliers for estimates.

H&R's ride just fine. Although im riding some pretty rough shocks to add on. Somethign that rides reptty soft is Eibach Pro Kit, if they make it for your car. Expect a nicer drop than the "sport" suspension. I dont believe Dinan srpings drop the car much at all, if any.

Id steer clear of bavauto springs as ive heard that they lower th car too much. H&R Sports or Eibach Pro-Kit would be soem fine choices and you coudl easily keep comfort by adding some adjustable sport shocks by Koni.

H&R are junk, I had them and they were harsh and stiff. I have had several freinds who have replaced them as well as they too felt the ride was excessive harsh and in one case they sagged so bad on a friend his camber went so negative they could not correct it. I would avoid H&R's. If you have them and like them ok, but I have had too many negative experiences with them.

Odd. Basically all BMW peopel I know are usign H&R's. People find it great and it's a very common combination to use H&R's along with Bilstein sports or Koni Adjustables.

Didnt notice it get any stiffer from my stock to my H&R's, but maybe that is because I already ahd bilstein sp.

I've ridden in H&R 'Cup Kit' setups on 3 series, and it was a little 'bumpy' as it was stiff, but the ride wasn't too harsh (till we hit speed bumps, OMG). Eibach's (Even a sportline kit) seems to give a smoother ride than a cup kit at least. Prokits, I can't tell the difference from OEM sports setup really (till you get to actually cornering).

My buddy just put the H&R springs and kept the stock M3 shocks and it dropped it perfectly. The ride is a bit harsher, but it is to be expected. I am going to get a Bilstein PSS9 system on my M. Just a matter of time....
