Which model should I buy?

Hi all,

Plan on buying my first BMW in the next month or so, I know I want to buy a 3 series just not sure which one. Must have 4 doors, looking for help on which engine or model would be best based on user's experiences. Looking to spend between 12-15K.

Thanks for everyone's help!

What kind of driver are you?

Knowing that would determine more of what you are looking for.

Personally I would go with an M3.

I know of a silver M3 locally, 4 door, 80k, and they are asking $15,900.00

I am a safe, responsible driver who normally drives around 5 miles an hour above the posted speed limit. I am not not into jack rabbit starts or driving at a high rate of speed. Thanks for your input I apprciate your time and thoughts!

I'm not trying to sound flipant, but then exactly what do you want to spend the premium when you could get the same from some other brand for a cheaper price with just as much reliability & safety?

Unless of course you enjoy the twisties and rear wheel drive cars. Then the 3 would be your car.

If you want something safe I'd go w/ a late 90s 3 Series (just for the side air bags)

Since speed is not a big factor, I would not spend the premium for the 2.8L (328) or the 3.0L (M3). I'd probably go for the 2.5L (325), if speed were not a factor. I have 1.8L (318) and I find it more than sufficient for some get-up-and-go. But nevertheless, with the amount of horsepwoer new cars are coming with, it probably would be good idea to the 2.5 just for some reserve power.

Four door would limit you to the 325i, 318i, 328i.

Given the items you said, your price range, and a desire for the 3 series, I'd look for a 97-98 (e36) or even a 2000 (e46) 325i or even a 323i.

I'd try to get a manual only because there are so many mixed reports about BMWS automatics.

Any choice you make will be a good one. Good Luck & enjoy the HUNT!

You can probably get a high mileage E46 or an older E36 for that price range. Before you buy, post your choice up here so that we can give you some extra advice.
