Is Octane 94 an overkill

Hi!

BMW Germany recommends to use at least 91 octane gas (we call this "Normal" (= unleaded)). We also got "Super" with 95 octane and "Super Plus" with 98 octane.
Shell has also the "Optimax" gas with 100 octane - but it´s not worth the price.

A German car magazine made a test. There was just a little difference in acceleration (0,1s to 60 mph) and top speed (2 or 3 miles). There was no difference in fuel consumption.
So you can safe the money and take 91 octane gas - but if you get 93 for the same price, I would take it.

The German prices are really expensive, BTW:
Normal: 1,08€/liter --> 1 gallon costs approx. 4,90$ [1 gallon = 3,785 liter; 1€ = 1,20$]
Super: 1,10€/liter
Super Plus: 1,14€/liter
Optimax: 1,29€/liter
(Diesel: 0,89€/liter).

What prices do you have in the US?

Best regards, Marco
