Every time I see another BMW I wave, usually get a wave back. The other day I was tooling through town, saw another Z3 like mine and waived. The guy and his female passenger just looked at me like I was an idiot. Now, I'm saying I'm not an idiot, but I thought is was kinda rude. They were both older than me, maybe late forties. Snobs I say.

...And everyone knows Bab's is running the country, has been since George senior was head at the CIA.

S2000 Wave

I was with my dad today, and he was driving a Honda S2000 (work car). We were driving back to the dealership's lot and got a wave from an identical S2000. I guess only the expensive Hondas get waves? I've never seen a Honda owner wave, but I guess you learn something new every day. <--- Not downing Hondas at all... I like 'em

If Civic and Accord drivers waved to other Civics and Accords, they would be waving all the time. Together, those cars must sell over 500k units a year in the US.

Exclusivity or a sense of brand/heritage are necessary, unless you are on water, in which case everybody waves for some reason.

You might as well drive with your right hand on the steering wheel and wave constantly with your left hand throughout your whole drive if you were to wave to the same Honda or Toyota driver as your car.

This somewhat goes to show how distinct class of drivers we are to actually be priviledge or don't mind spending money on an expensive car like a bmw.

Yeah, I think it's only with S2000s b/c those are rarer and for enthusiasts. Honda sells over 400K Accords a year. Throw that in with the 300K+ Civics sold every year, your hand would fall off if you waved to every other Honda driver.

Before I get flamed for bringing up such an old post, please read first. I was thumbing through tese older posts, procrastinating finishing my paper, and I saw this one and the light bulb finally went on.

Like five or six times while I've been driving my car, someone in a BMW waves to me. I had no idea why they were doing this. Once it was at a light and I thought the guy wanted to race (he was in an e30) and so the light went green and I went. Point I'm trying to make is, I think alot of first time BMW drivers, or bmw drivers who have not had the tradition handed down to them do not know of this tradition. In hindsight, it is obvious what the guy was signaling by waving, but I honestly had no clue....I think I've lost my point.

I never see anyone wave at me, I usually just nod when i see another bmw driver since then I don't really look too wierd if they don't nod back. Plus, most of the people I have seen driving in bimmers are young chicks in brand new ones, if I wave to them I would only get a wierd look back because they will think I am trying to pick them up and deffinately would think I am not worth it since they have a newer car.

I dunno why, but your description reminded me of that SNL skit that became a movie...A night at the Roxbury. LMAO.

LOL, What is Love....

Anyways, back in Russia, cops would pull you over for anything just to try to get some money out of you. So back there falshing your lights has become the standard for warning other drivers of a cop trap [paranoid]

You are absolutely right about that but I don't really see what it has to do with this BMWdude.

selavia, I know what you are talking about, funny movie. I like it when he broke the passanger window while shaking his head.

No problem Sean. They did drive an e36 in that movie and to say more it was blue. I saw it a couple of months ago and then out of boredom caught a rerun of it the next morning. I wonder what would people think if I drive around doing the same thing, people who know the movie will be probably cracking up while everyone else would probably think I am just another wierdo.

Not another weirdo, a weirdo with a nice car... you know, it may be the fact that I've been working on a project for tax class for the last 13hours (with at the most a 2-3hr break), but I just realized we have the same color car. You need the haddaway song "what is love, for anyone to truly get it.

Over here it seems as if every third car is a bimmer, but I try to wave to those with obviously well-looked after or unusual models. There is a strong community here of bimmer owners, but there is also a large majority who are oblivious to those around them. (esp. E36 owners for some reason)

It is totally different when I'm in my sisters mini though - I get a wave from almost every other mini driver with the odd exception of owners of the new one (hers is an old '82).

I also get more response when driving my fathers Baur than in my car even though mine is neat as a pin. The exception is when stopped at the lights on a Friday nite next to another bimmer, that usually gets a rolled down window and a few exchanged comments regarding each others cars - sometimes reulting in a pull over and admire session round the corner!! [headbang]

Also, as this is my first post on this forum, Hi to all, and happy trails!

Welcome aboard echothreezero. I love the term, "mine is neat as a pin". I don't think I have ever heard that before.

Here's a wave to all the bimmer owners here on the forum and even to those who don't own one.

[wave] [wave] [wave] [wave]

well after reading through this rather lengthy string i must admit that when i have "borrowed" daddy's Z i havent seen any waves. But since i am plannning on buying my own Bm in the summer, i will be sure to wave. Now the only decision is do i get an e36 M, E46 328 or jump into an e39? commentary would be great on this topic.
